A Vietnamese man from the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang has been fined by local police for setting up a robbery scene to cover the sale of over US$6,500 worth of jewelry from his wife.
Tran Van Loi in Hau Giang’s Chau Thanh District reported to police officers at around 1:30 pm on March 7 that he had been robbed at knifepoint by two strange men, losing one necklace and one bracelet, valued at VND150 million (US$6,530) in total, that he had been wearing.
Chau Thanh District s police officers came to the location that Loi claimed to be where the incident had taken place to examine, but they later determined that he had made a false report.
