WASHINGTON, DC (STL.News) The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the award of a $1,187,842 grant to the Connecticut Department of Labor to improve its Short-Time Compensation program and promote its advantages to the state’s business community. Also known as work-sharing, STC seeks to prevent layoffs by allowing an entire group of workers to receive a partial unemployment benefit payment while their employer reduces their hours.
Administered by the department’s Employment and Training Administration, the grant will enable the Connecticut Department of Labor to improve technology to provide employers and workers with better access to the program and raise awareness among the state’s employers of the STC program’s availability and use.

WASHINGTON, DC â The U.S. Department of Labor announced this week that the Indiana Department of Workforce Development is getting $100,000 in grants to expand Indianaâs fidelity bonding programs, which support employers that hire workers considered âat-riskâ due to prior involvement in the criminal justice system, as well as those in recovery for substance abuse. These workers often face barriers in their attempts to return to the workforce.
The U.S. Dept. of Labor issued a total of $725,000 in Fidelity Bonding Demonstration Grants to seven states and the District of Columbia.
Created by the department in 1966 and administered by its Employment and Training Administration, the Federal Bonding Program allows states to issue free-of-charge fidelity bonds to employers. The program provides employers with a bond of no less than $5,000 for each eligible new hire, and allows issuance of up to $25,000 in bonds for each individual, as incentives for employers to hire th
