the train wreckage is just twisted. and just because the sheer mechanics, the sheer physics of it, there is certainly a reality that as time passes it may be challenging to find more survivors. yeah. i was absolutely chilled just listening to the eyewitness accounts, people could hear people moaning or wailing or screaming and didn t know where those voices were coming from. one what more do we know, what could have caused this? reporter: so this investigation obviously is a work in progress. we know that three trains in total were involved. it s believed sometime last night at around 7:00 just after 7:00 one of the trains basically derailed and was basically moved onto another track. that s when the two other trains were involved. so two of these trains were passenger trains. a third train was a freight train. now as you mentioned, the prime minister, prime minister modi, is on his way.
following live. what do we know? reporter: good morning. there are a lot of unanswered questions. it is less than 24 hours since the wreck and kept as a distance but you can see a big cloud of dust and heavy machinery where the train wreckage is. they re starting to clean up a little bit. still unanswered questions. three people killed in the crash. dozened injured. among the three dead two on the train and the third was the driver of the dump truck. it happened around 12:30 yesterday. close to a dozen cars. hundreds of people on board coming from california to chicago. and once it crashed you saw the images from inside the train. people had to escape from those cars. some of which flipped upside down. emergency crews swarmed the wreckage to help and then some
the philadelphia inquirer report, i think at the sheer number of passengers that remain unaccounted for. i expected one or two, but the philly inquirer says it s a dozen. reporter: yeah. and i think again, we re going to have to wait to hear more from authorities about that. we know that they have had this very active search that has been expanding in the recent days. they have people out looking for potential passengers, possibly they say, thrown from the train wreckage itself. it s also possible that some of the people unaccounted for could have actually just not simply boarded the train at all. and they re also saying it s people could have walked away from the crash site without notifying authorities. i expect we will be hearing more on that point from philadelphia mayor michael nutter, who s expected to give a press conference this hour. i hope so. erin maclaughlin life, thank
