way. right. so that is our focus this morning of making sure that anybody that was left in this area and needs help, that we can get in there. but i think my other concern, as you mentioned, as the storm continues to move inland that the people in the path of this storm in georgia, in south carolina, that they still need to take this very serious. even with a category 2 that brings excessive winds with you it s also bringing rain. there s parts of georgia and south carolina that are prone to catastrophic inland flooding. so people need to still listen to their local officials and listen to what they re telling them to do to make sure they re making sure that they stay safe during this storm as it passes through. yeah, here in tallahassee they re expecting anywhere from 6 to 10 inches of rain total. it feels like it from where i m standing and they re concerned about fresh water flooding, they don t want people driving. the storm surge at the coast,
going to be heading into much cooler water. and that s really going to allow for hilary to weaken considerably as we push into the weekend. the biggest concern out of this storm is going to be the rainfall across the southwestern u.s. you have the extremely rare high risk warning across portions of california, a much wider scope of a moderate risk that includes las vegas, stretching into san diego. the main concern is that rain. widespread, two to four inches of rain total. but there will be some areas that could pick up eight to even ten inches of rain. and look at what happened to death valley, california, when they had just an inch and a half of rain last year. so we are definitely looking at some significant impacts from this through the weekend. did i hear you right, this is the first-ever tropical storm alert issued for southern california? it is, in fact, the very first tropical storm watch ever issued for the state of california by the national hurricane center, yes. okay

since christmas and that s a lot of rain, you know, state officials had a press conference over the weekend and said some areas have received their annual rain total in just 18 days. california has been desperate for this moisture because of the drought, but just too much too soon has really caused a lot of issues here, some of the rescues happened over the weekend, one woman here had to be airlifted. clinging on to a tree and rescue workers were able to hold on to her and hoist her down to safety. and a guy drove off the cliff but because of the rain and waves crashing on his vehicle, it was hard to get him out. the flooding advisory is going to be in effect here until this afternoon, jose. 7:11 in the morning, thank you very much for being with us this morning.
