could be mechanical error. we don t know what why this happened. and we really want to know that. and i think i think it s almost irresponsible just to say oh, positive train control would have been prevented it. it might have. but you really need to know what happened here. and i know from investigations in other train accidents long before there was positive train control that was controlled by satellite or gps there are mechanical systems on trains meant to do the same thing if a train is blowing through a central or speeding or faster than is supposed to be. there were levers. that was on the subways they had that. on the railroads they had methods of enforcing signals even with steam engines. as far back as that. in other words they had automatic train stop which
