Human-caused Cascade Fire holds at 30 acres in Desolation Wilderness

The Cascade Fire burning near Snow Lake on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe continues to hold at 30 acres as of Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. The wildfire is located entirely in the Desolation Wilderness. No structures are threatened.

Forest Service beaches, day-use facilities at Tahoe reopen, fire restrictions remain in place

National Forest trails, trailheads, beaches and other day-use areas in the Lake Tahoe Basin have now reopened for day-use only as of Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. Camping and overnight stays will not be permitted, and campgrounds will remain closed. Resorts will reopen for day-use only. Emergency Fire Restrictions will remain in effect through Nov.

Carson City Parks and Recreation warns public to not overcrowd trailheads

In light of current directives from the Governor related to health concerns, many facilities are closed, leaving few options for exercise and recreation. The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department reports that an unprecedented number of people are utilizing Carson City’s more than 8,000 acres of parks, trails and open space.
