Trai will also work on improving connectivity inside buildings and how the construction and the telecom industry should work in tandem to provide ubiquitous coverage.
Former railway board chairman and CEO, Anil Kumar Lahoti, has been appointed as the chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), becoming the third non-IAS officer to hold the position. Lahoti, an Indian Railway Service of Engineers officer, is the ninth chairman of the regulatory body. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions approved his appointment for a three-year term.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had earlier invited applications for the Trai top job on June 22 this year. “The last date of submission of applications is December 22 by 5:30 pm. Those who have applied against the earlier advertisement issued on June 22 need not apply fresh,” DoT said in a notification Friday.
