A Rochester native, Barry Vee has been entertaining and informing the Rochester community on air for over 35 years. Barry began his radio career in college at MCC and has worked in a wide range of formats from jazz to top 40 to sports talk and everything in between. Announcer, Traffic Reporter, News Director, Program Director, and General Manager are just some of the job titles he has held during his lengthy broadcasting career. His love for and knowledge of the current “oldies” traces back to his days as a DJ in many of the popular dance clubs in the Rochester area. Somewhere he still has those polyester suits and platform shoes of the disco days! Barry and his “stacks of wax” – yes, he still has those dance singles on LP – reside in Webster, along with his wife, children, and lovable dogs.
Favourite movie: National Lampoon s Christmas Vacation, in all of its retro 80s glory.
Favourite book: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. For several years, I have reread the original in a comfortable chair by the tree. It is a story that transcends time, unfortunately, about the extremes of the haves and the have nots . There is redemption, generosity and, ultimately, hope. Good themes for 2021. It remains contemporary nearly 180 years later.
Favourite holiday song: Very tough here. It has shifted over the years. Sarah McLachlan’s version of River is excellent. In the last few years, it has been the Mavericks Christmas album (Hey! Merry Christmas!), and Chris Isaak’s twangy take on the holidays.
