MUSCODA, Wis. Thousands passed through St. John’s gymnasium Saturday afternoon to pay tribute to Tracy Krueger. The longtime coach, teacher, referee and friend passed away Monday after suffering a heart attack while refereeing a high school basketball game.
“He was so emphatic with his desire and his love to bring kids along,” said Shelly Miess, who taught alongside Krueger for a number of years. “Not only on the sports arena, but also in life.”
Known to his players as “Coach K”, Krueger impacted tens of thousands of lives during his 69 years. As a teacher, coach, ref and volunteer.
“(My daughter) is a coach herself now,” Miess said. “A lot of that is because of Tracy.”

A high school basketball referee in Wisconsin died after collapsing on the court during a boys varsity game Monday night.
In an e-mail sent by the family to those who knew the referee, and forwarded to the Journal Sentinel on Tuesday by Richland Center administration, it was confirmed that Tracy Krueger, a longtime coach and official, was the referee who passed away. As he did as a colleague, competitor, teacher, and coach, he was once again sharing his love of athletics, competitive spirit, teamwork and fair play, while refereeing a basketball game when he collapsed on the court, Krueger s family said in the e-mail. Unfortunately, he was unable to be revived.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) Wisconsin made the most of its immediate opportunity to avenge a rare loss to Penn State.
Freshman Jonathan Davis scored a career-high 17 points and the 19th-ranked Badgers resumed their dominance of the Nittany Lions with a 72-56 victory on Tuesday night.
Wisconsin’s 13-game winning streak over the Nittany Lions had ended with an 81-71 loss at Penn State on Saturday. The Big Ten foes played twice in four days because COVID-19 issues forced the postponement of their scheduled Jan. 3 matchup at Penn State.
RICHLAND CENTER, Wis. â A high school basketball referee in Wisconsin has died after collapsing on the court during a game.
Tracy Krueger was 69. His death was confirmed in an email by son Brendan Krueger. No cause was given.
His father was stricken while officiating a game between Richland Center and Mount Horeb on Monday night.
Richland Center High School principal Jon Bosworth said Krueger blew his whistle during the second half to indicate he needed a break.
Bosworth said Krueger collapsed as people gathered to help him. Bosworth said it was a matter of secondsâ before Krueger was tended to by medical professionals at the game. He was taken to a hospital and died that night.
