Press Release
Senate President Vicente Sotto III and I had a good meeting with the three czars of the government s COVID response Thursday night to discuss red tape issues and the funding needs hounding the country s fight against COVID. We met with vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr., testing czar Vivencio Dizon, and contact tracing czar Benjamin Magalong.
Among the topics we discussed were: Immediate legislative action against red tape in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that hampers government efforts against COVID, and which we agreed on a plan to resolve quickly enough. P90 billion needed for next year s vaccine procurement budget, to be included in the regular budget of the Department of Health. This is to be itemized for vaccines, instead of putting it under the Unprogrammed Fund, thus ensuring its availability.

Senator Panfilo M. Lacson on Friday expressed optimism that herd immunity might yet be achieved in the country with proper budget and lots of help from the business sector and local government units (LGUs).
Lacson issued this statement after he and Senate President Vicente Sotto III had a ‘’good meeting’’ with the three czars of the government’s COVID response Thursday night to discuss red tape issues and the funding needs hounding the country’s fight against COVID.
The three are vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr., testing czar Vivencio Dizon, and contact tracing czar Benjamin Magalong.
Among the topics the two senators and three czars discussed were:

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said in a statement that Magalong has tendered his resignation after drawing flak for his and his wife’s attendance at the party hosted by eventologist Tim Yap.
However, the Palace official said that the NTF rejected the resignation of the Baguio City mayor.
“We confirm that Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong tendered his resignation as the government’s Tracing Czar,” he said.
“Mayor Magalong’s resignation, however, has not been accepted. He continues to enjoy the trust and confidence of the leadership of the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19,” he added.

MULTISYS TECHNOLOGIES Corp., the developer of StaySafe.ph, has removed the GPS and Bluetooth features of the contact-tracing app to ensure âzero surveillance.â
In an e-mailed statement, the software solutions company said the appâs âenhancedâ QR code security prevents data exposure.
It noted that some people have been âreluctantâ to use the contact-tracing app.
The governmentâs Inter-Agency Task Force for the management of emerging infectious diseases issued a resolution on Nov. 26 last year declaring StaySafe.ph as its digital contact-tracing app of choice.
The app is mandatory for adoption and use in all government agencies. It is also promoted for use in private establishments or offices.
