Framingham elementary schools roof projects state funding

FRAMINGHAM Two city elementary schools could soon get new roofs. City councilors and School Committee members this week agreed to submit a statement of interest for the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s accelerated repair program to replace roofs at the McCarthy and Dunning elementary schools. The deadline for school districts to submit a statement of interest for the program is June 1. “It is the first step in getting an MSBA-funded project forward,” said Superintendent of Schools Robert Tremblay. The roof on one wing of McCarthy Elementary School was last replaced in 1999, while the roof on the other wing was replaced in 2007 and has a 20-year life expectancy. The warranty on the section repaired in 1999 has expired and is showing signs of wear. Leaks could lead to mold issues in the school, according to school officials.
