Could that be changing? A trademark application was recently filed on Toyota s behalf with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the Crown name for automobiles and structural parts thereof. Research While historically the Crown name was applied to a sedan (and its coupe or wagon variants, if applicable), recently the name has been migrating to other vehicles coming out of the FAW Toyota joint venture in China as a sub-brand, like the Chinese-market version of the Highlander the FAW Toyota Crown Kluger and a version of the Alphard van called the Crown Vellfire.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China recently published the images of the Toyota Crown Kluger SUV. Although the images are not revealed officially by the company yet, the first look of the vehicle is taking fans by surprise. The vehicle is expected to launch in China in 2022. Expected Features Exterior The Crown Kluger SUV takes its inspiration from Toyota Highlander with variation in aesthetics. The front end houses a beautiful Crown signature emblem with an aggressive look. If we talk about the rear end, the taillights and tailgate reflect a similar design as of Toyota Fortuner with a rather compact design. Other expected details include a panoramic sunroof and 18-inch alloy wheels.

23 April 2021 12:47 pm / 3 comments Following its appearance in homologation documents for China, the 2021 Toyota Crown Kluger has officially made its debut at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show. The Crown Kluger features a 2.5 litre hybrid powertrain with E-Four all-wheel-drive, according to Toyota, though further specific details remain undisclosed for now. For reference, the Crown Kluger is underpinned by Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, which serves as the base for the similarly sized US-market Highlander SUV. The previously sighted homologation documents for the Crown Kluger’s entry into the China market revealed that the three-row, Highlander-based SUV measures 5,015 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, 1,750 mm tall and with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. Those also show that the SUV will wear 18-inch alloy wheels, though 20-inch items are also available.
