An electric Toyota HiLux ute could be in production by the end of next year according to reports. The President of Toyota Thailand, Noriaki Yamashita, told media at the Bangkok International Motor Show that an electric version of the popular ute could be ready by the end of 2025, according to Reuters.
Toyota Australia has released its first images of the updated 2024 HiLux ute, a design that should see it through to the end of its current generation that has been around since 2015.
Pricing for the Toyota Tundra ute may have been inadvertently revealed before the model has even been officially confirmed for a full-scale Australian launch. An auto industry pricing report delivered to CarsGuide featured the Toyota Tundra ute in its pricing report, a surprise given Toyota hasn't officially confirmed the model for a local launch past the end of its customer evaluation program.
Toyota says the end is coming for its venerable V8 engine, with incoming Fuel Efficiency Standards to cause the its portfolio of vehicles in Australia to "alter considerably", including its popular 70 Series LandCruiser.
Speaking to media at the launch of the new flagship HiLux varant, Toyota Australia Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Sean Hanley, said the off-road-ready ute would have no supply shortages unlike the brand’s popular range of hybrid models.
