NEW HANOVERÂ â Supervisors Chairman Kurt Zebrowski is shocked and not very happy to learn that the township will receive $1.38 million in federal recovery aid.
Nonetheless, he is resigned to the situation, saying during a review of the matter Thursday night, I m sure we ll find a way to spend it.
The question, of course, is how?

And that s where Cory Johnson comes in.
Johnson, with the law firm of Zelenkofske Axelrod, was before the board at the invitation of Township Manager Jamie Gwynn to explain how his firm can help the township from running afoul of the ever-changing regulations that are attached to the money.

NEW HANOVER â With a unanimous vote, the New Hanover Township Supervisors Thursday voted to offer $600,000, spread out over 10 years, to help with the preservation of the 455-acre Laughing Waters Girl Scout Camp.

The grants being sought â $250,000 from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and $250,000 from the Department of Community and Economic Development â would help get to the $3.9 million price tag of putting a conservation easement on the entire camp.
The supervisors balked at the request last month, and said, somewhat pointedly, that they thought it was a lot to ask for when Upper Frederick Township, where 17 percent of the camp is located, was only being asked to contribute $1,200.
NEW HANOVERÂ â The board of supervisors has voted unanimously to reject the final site plan approval for the first phase of the controversial Gibraltar Rock Quarry off Route 73.
The milestone vote occurred in the 20th year that the quarry has been trying to win township approvals since it was first proposed in 2001.
The vote followed a Feb. 10 recommendation from the township planning commission.

The supervisor vote, taken at a Feb. 22 meeting, was the culmination of hours of often salty debate between township officials and Stephen Harris, the attorney for Gibraltar Rock, at both the planning and supervisors meetings.
