MATTAPOISETT From daffodils blooming in public spaces to flowers at the Shipyard Park garden, many of the plants around town are a result of the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club Garden Group.
Mattapoisett Town beautification work began in the 1970s with the start of the Garden Group. The first plantings were at the Triangle, the Post Office, and Town Hall. This work has continued for more than 50 years with plantings that expanded to other locations like the Historical Society, the Town Wharf, the Mattapoisett Free Public Library, and Town Beach House window boxes.
A dogwood tree was planted at the “new” Police Station on Route 6 to honor Eleanor Ross, a former Mattapoisett and State Federation President.

OUR TREASURES
Cinema in Whangārei has a history of more than 100 years. Our first theatre was the Theatre Royal. The earliest display of moving images was via a Projectoscope or Kinetoscope in 1898, two years after New Zealand s first cinema screening.
This was set up like a large magic lantern but with a reel system for rotating short lengths of nitrate film.
A backdrop of sound to the display would be provided by a phonograph or live musicians.
Tremont town manager resigns
TREMONT Selectmen reluctantly accepted the resignation of Town Manager Chris Saunders during their meeting Tuesday night, effective June 18.
He is leaving after three years in the role of town manager to move to southern Maine with his wife, Dr. Grace Price, who has been offered a fellowship at Maine Medical Center in Portland. They have a toddler son and Saunders explained to the board the move makes the most sense for their family.
“I have a lot of regrets about leaving Tremont; it’s a really terrific town,” Saunders told the board after announcing the departure during the meeting. “I’ve had a terrific experience here working with all of you and with the residents and the volunteers of the boards and the committees and the staff here at the office. It’s just a really great community. Personally, this is the right move for our family, but it is a bittersweet moment for me.”

MATTAPOISETT With a mile of bike path already constructed and more on the way, Mattapoisett seems like the perfect town for a bikeshare program.
But when bikeshare company Veoride tried to bring bikes to the town, they were gone just as quick as they came.
“Let’s call it a failed business model,” said Friends of the Mattapoisett Bike Path President Bonnie DeSousa.
Bikeshare programs, which allow riders to pick up and drop off bikes around the towns they’re in at an hourly rate, can usually be found in larger cities. But some smaller towns experimented with the service, to little avail.
