The court heard Thompson, 25, drove backwards and forwards to try and free his car and escape. Mr Adlington said Thompson was removed from the car and was being restrained on the floor when someone said he s got a knife.
The court heard a member of the public had called 999 and police and paramedics arrived at the scene.
Thompson, of Town Street Walk, Chapel Allerton, had a Rambo style hunting knife in a scabbard.
And police found a small amount of cannabis in a bag Thompson had with him.
Mr Adlington said: He said he had been chased and beaten up by some people and he was very scared.
