学会了游泳，费华安便玩起了花样入水姿势，一会抱脚旋转一周入水，一会手臂成一字型入水，他在水里就像一条自由自在的鱼。“我曾憋住一口气，水下潜泳25米不换气。”他自豪地说。
之所以苦练游泳，费华安为的是遇到紧急情况可以自救或救人。至今，他从死神手中夺回了11条人命。第一次下水救人，他才12岁。那一天特别冷，一个5岁小孩不慎掉进了河里。他看到后，毫不犹豫跳进了冰冷刺骨的河里，救起了小孩。
“有洗衣服掉下去的，也有走在桥上玩耍失足的。”每次看到有人溺水，费华安都毫不犹豫出手相救。有一次救人后，他感觉身上疼痛难忍，到医院一查，发现右脚趾、右手掌都深深地扎着刺。最后，医生帮他打了麻药，通过小手术才将刺取了出来。
