Fatal shootings in Dover reached a record high this year when a man was killed early Christmas morning.
The man, whose name and age have not yet been released, died at Kent General Hospital after being taken there by private vehicle. Police were called to the hospital just before 2:15 a.m.
Detectives believe the man was shot near Town Pointe Apartments. Police have not said where on his body he was hit.
The man s death pushes Dover into record territory, both for its total number of homicides and its number of fatal shootings.
Nine people have been killed so far this year, eight by gunfire. The last time the city approached this many people killed was 2015, which saw seven homicides.

DOVER, Del. – Police are investigating a homicide that happened early Friday morning in Dover.
Dover police say they responded around 2:15 AM to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for a report of a gunshot victim. Investigators learned a man was shot near 820 Carvel Drive in the area of the Town Pointe Apartments. The victim arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle but died from his injuries shortly after.
