COVENTRY â Although the Town Councilâs Steering Committee recommended resident Cathy Mitchell, a Democrat, for the second time this year to fill a vacancy on the Economic Development Commission, the full council instead chose to appoint Republican resident Andrew Ladyga to the five-year term.
Ladyga was favored in a 4-2 vote of the Town Council Monday with Lisa Conant and John Hand, both Democrats on the steering committee, opposed. Democrat Lisa Thomas abstained from the vote. The three-member council steering committee has a Democratic majority and the full Town Council has a Republican majority.
Ladyga has lived in town for more than a decade and owns parcels of land that border Coventry and Bolton, which Democrats have argued could be a potential conflict of interest when making decisions on whatâs best for the town.
