An 18yearold university of iowa student now faces charges for falsely reporting an active shooter on campus. Police arrested harrison tsimourisafter the incident saturday night. Night. Police say he sent a text message to a friend saying there was an active shooter in burge residence and evacuated the building tsimouris sent the same student another text saying it was all a joke. Hes charged with filing a false report. Next month will mark 25 years since the university dealt with an actual shooting. Former ui graduate student gang lu went on a shooting spree on campus in november 19 91. Lu killed four faculty members and one student before turning the gun on himself. While you were sleeping, multiple fire crews tried to save a burning home on ely street in cedar rapids just after midnight. Our crew on the scene says firefighters worked to tame the flames for more than two hours. The Linn County Sheriffs Office tells cbs 2 news no one was home at the time. Initial reports say the home may have been undergoing renovations. Officials are now working to figure out what started the fire. Well continue to monitor this developing story all morning long.
