Two Chicago firefighters died within a two-day span battling fires in the city this week, marking an unprecedented situation for the department and the city.
Chicago firefighters Jermaine Pelt, 49, and Jan Tchoryk, 55, both died in the line of duty this week in separate fires that also left four other firefighters injured.
“To have two go down this way, back-to-back, it’s very hard on the members. It’s very hard on command. It’s just very hard,” said Larry Langford, Chicago fire spokesperson.
