Gilberto: CHAN 2020 had abundant talents
Former Angolan International Felisberto Sebastião da Graça Amaral has praised the abundant talent that has so far been showcased at the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN), Cameroon 2020.
Commonly known as Gilberto during his playing days with Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Belgian club Lierse among others, he said despite the COVID-19 challenges, teams have tried to prepare well and showed good football.
âWe witnessed very good football with teams expressing themselves really well. In Group D, Guinea and Zambia showed high tactical awareness and no wonder they got to the knock-out stage,â added Gilberto who is now part of the CAF Technical Study Group (TSG).

On the pitch, two teams go head-to-head. There are decisive actions. A tackle made in the area by the goalkeeper makes the public react to the edge of the field. The striker on the ground looks up to demand a penalty. The referee touches his headset, he seems to be listening to his assistants advice. After a few moments, he walks over to the screen installed on the touchline.
A video clip is shown but he asks for more âShow me another angle,â he says. He looks at the footage one last time before heading back onto the pitch and indicating there is no fault. The game is restarted. This is VAR!
CHAN 2020 : Video Assistant Referee In Action
During the quarterfinal matches, the use of the new technology was vivid with expulsions and goals confirmed after consulting the VAR.
The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is in action at the ongoing Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Cameroon. Actually, CAF introduced the use of the VAR from the quarterfinal stages of the 2020 Total CHAN that took place last weekend.
