now it s time for a look at the weather with sarah keith lucas. well we have got some rain in the forecast pushing from west to east but it is not a complete wash out, there is a bit of blue sky. this is there is a bit of blue sky. this is the picture in devon, a little blue sky as the rain clears further east but for other areas the rain will arrive through the course of the afternoon and it could be heavy particularly in parts of the east of england, some thunderstorms and localised surface water flooding. likely to see the heavier burst anywhere from east yorkshire, lincolnshire down in towards kent. here, torrential downpours, not everywhere will see the heavy showers but clearer and drier
Most of us didn’t get any rain on Saturday, but a cluster of evening storms moving east from the Saginaw area raked the thumb with strong wind gusts and torrential downpours. Fortunately, we are starting our Sunday on a much quieter note.
picking up and they re going to be strong. what happens is you have that ocean water and the wind just pushes that water on land. so, you literally have a wall of water. and this can be up to 16 feet. that s unsurvivable. it s life-threatening. it is fast, it is furious. and it strong. that is something that we really worry about. that is where those floodgates and walls are going to be tested. that is going to be the first test. we re going to see widespread invasion as expected with water. dangerous waves. picking up were iran and al are. then we re looking at the flood threats on top of this. this is going to be a big story and it s going to stretch for miles. i m assuming soon is going to be a flood warning. but right now a watch means it s expected to see flooding rains, torrential downpours. and that s what we re expecting up to 20 inches of rain in some spots. it s hard to wrap your head around that. remember in new orleans, it s a bull effect. water just goes in and the second
hello. two faces to our weather at the start of this week, one of them delivering some pleasant sunny spells. and though temperatures are at or below average for the time of year, in the sunshine it still feels quite warm. the other face, though, torrential downpours. already reports from the met office that one spot on the isle of wight has had over 100 millimetres of rain today from a particularly heavy downpour that s moved through, so there is a chance of flooding from these. that risk of the heaviest downpours as the day goes on from south east wales, the south midlands, across much of southern england, including london. not everybody catching them but if you do, there could be some impacts from them. elsewhere in england and wales, sunny spells, chance of a shower. northern ireland, a lot of cloud, rain towards the west and south clearing, and sunny spells in scotland, isolated shower, maybe be a few spots of rain where it s cloudy in the northern isles. now, where we have this t
into single figures in rural parts of scotland and northern ireland. that is because we are behind this cold weather front. as i say, this is complicating our sunny spells and scattered showers scenario because we have actually got rather more cloud to start across parts of northern england, showers following on that brisk wind into the north and east of scotland, but fewer showers further west across scotland. very few showers for northern ireland, generally speaking, and further west. but they will break out both on our weather front and further south. it looks like the most potent showers during the day on sunday are likely across southern and eastern parts of the uk. slow moving with hail and thunder and lightning once again, torrential downpours, so we need to keep an eye on those. and temperatures generally will be a degree or so down on those of saturday because of that northerly breeze, although a fairly light breeze in southern areas, as i say. and those showers will rumble on
