There is no doubt that the Dias kickback scandal barely scratches the surface of the abundant corruption and backroom wheeling and dealing that pervades the upper echelons of the trade union bureaucracy. These corrupt relations are rooted in the unions’ objective social position as corporatist partners of big business and the capitalist state.
