Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash-testing electric vehicles The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety in Greene County named the Ford Mustang MACH-E a top safety pick among tested electric vehicles. By Elizabeth Holmes | May 9, 2021 at 11:45 PM EDT - Updated May 10 at 2:16 PM GREENE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in Greene County is putting newly-released electric vehicles to the test to see which ones are the safest. The Ford Mustange MACH-E earned the Top Safety Pick Award for 2021. Each electric vehicle that is tested goes through six different crash tests to check durability along the sides and top, like regular vehicles. The Institute also tests each EV’s battery heat by looking for hot-spots, which could damage the car and hurt the driver.

Official: Ram 1500 Is America s Safest Pickup Truck

It s the only one to receive a Top Safety Pick rating. Despite being the most popular vehicle segment in America, full-size trucks have a poor reputation for safety ratings. In fact, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety just introduced more stringent guidelines that will make it even tougher for trucks to earn a good crash score. In a statement released this week, the IIHS said that only a single full-size pickup truck model earned its Top Safety Pick Award for 2020. The 2021 Ram 1500 crew cab pickup earned the coveted award when equipped with specific headlights and optional front crash prevention. Formerly a Top Safety Pick + recipient in 2020, the 2021 Ram missed out on the top honor because it didn t earn good or acceptable headlights ratings on all trims. Only three out of the four available headlight packages earn marginal scores, which is part of the new criteria for 2020.
