Summer programming starts soon at Bossier libraries

Summer programming starts soon at Bossier libraries Annie Gilmer View Comments The end of the school year approaches, and while the end of the school year may not mean much to you personally, it does mean that the start of our Summer Experience program is almost upon us! That’s got to be exciting news! Or, if it’s not, flatter us by pretending it is.  Regardless of your actual excitement about the reading portion of Summer Experience, we do have some fun programming planned for the summer that will hopefully appeal. For instance, we’ve been able to book some very special guests this year because we can offer in-person programming again!

Check out all of the upcoming programs at Bossier Parish Libraries Annie Gilmer This week in library news, I decided to feature some of our current programming, both virtual and in-person. I admit that I settled on this topic because we’ve been working on summer reading plans recently – yes, summer planning does start this early, in fact, it started way back in January (or earlier really) but we’ve recently dialed it up to 11, or gotten the ball rolling, whichever figure of speech you prefer and this all brought programming in general to the forefront of my mind.

Learn more about International Women s Day at the library

Learn more about International Women s Day at the library Annie Gilmer It’s the beginning of March already, and this column comes out just in time for me to talk about International Women’s Day which is celebrated on March 8. This holiday, or day of recognition, is set aside specifically in order to celebrate women for their achievements, and to raise awareness about women’s equality. International Women’s Day (IWD) was officially recognized in 1977 by the United Nations, but the celebration vastly predates the seventies. According to the UN’s website, the first IWD celebration took place on February 28, 1909 which was organized in support of the garment workers’ strike that took place the year prior where women protested for better working conditions.
