Howard Angel was arrested after police raided his home and took away a laptop computer. Tony Stanford, prosecuting, said that the following day Angel went to Grantham Police Station and confessed. “He said he had been stupid. He was interviewed. He was relatively frank. He said he wanted help. “He said ‘I shouldn’t have done it but I did’. He said he became addicted and hooked on it.”

Ian Picksley, who at the time was on prison licence after being released from an indeterminate sentence, was visited by officers in December 2019 at his flat in Hawthorn Chase, Lincoln, but initially refused to answer the door. Tony Stanford, prosecuting, said that officers knocked on the front and back doors and then on the window but it was several minutes before Picksley allowed them in.
