the city had already committed to moving out of this building which housed city hall and the metropolitan police department. that would have left this enormous campus empty. another massive hole in already depressed downtown las vegas. tony shay, the ceo of on-line retail giant zap pos approached the mayor. rather than constructing a new headquarters for the rapidly expanding zap pos, well, tony had an idea. he wanted to take over and repurpose the whole of city hall. the end result was the largest ribbon cutting ever. with every single zappos employee taking part. it s the beginning of what some people say saved downtown las vegas. let s go take a look at exactly what they did. you know, it s a historic building, and buildings over 40 years old. it was the very first city hall that the city actually built itself to be the government. there was a metropolitan police department here. for us it was an adaptive reuse of an old building.
