On its front page, the ft says the pm could know by the weekend whether the eu is willing to engage with his proposal to resolve the irish border issue. And the times says borisjohnson will ask the European Union to rule out a further extension to article 50 as part of any new brexit deal. The metro goes with the newws that the bbc director general, tony hall, to reverse a decision to partially uphold a complaint against breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty. The guardian also goes on that story, and says the u turn follows leaked internal correspondence which cast doubts on public claim

The chancellor has announced a raft of spending pledges at the conservative Party Conference, among them an increase in the National Living wage. Sajid javid said that over the next five years it would increase to £10. 50 an hour, and the age threshold would be lowered from 25 to 21. But an unwelcome distraction for delegates at the conference has been an allegation that the Prime Minister groped a journalist during a lunch 20 years ago, which he denies. 0ur Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg has sent this report from Party Conference in manchester. Lorenzo, a very powerful hurricane a few days ago, continuing to weaken as it pushes closer towards our shores. Many of the computer models are issues, it is where this as to where this storm will end up. It looks like it will end up as a low area of low pressure, and it will just push to the west of the united kingdom, someone could bring Western Areas a spell of wind and rain, but it could be that it moves a bit further westwards towards iceland, in which case we wont be affected by it. We are more certain about is this system will draw some mild air, drawing arctic winds back in towards scandinavia. This is the picture for thursday, at the moment we do think that the remnants of Hurricane Lorenzo could affect parts of Northern Ireland, western britain with some stronger winds, bringing some heavy rain, it could stay dry further east, it could do. Area of low pressure continues to push eastwards, very wet weather particularly for england and wales, into southern scotland well, could be localised flooding problems, still some strong winds in the south, but phenomenon island in the northern part of scotland, the wind is lighter, a few showers with some spells of sunshine as well. As we head into sunday evening on the back edge of that low pressure system, notice the isobars squatting together, another bout of strong winds, this time from the north or north west, could see gust of 60 mph, some coastal flooding north west, could see gust of 60 mph, some coastalflooding is possible in eastern areas.
