bret: that was the gridiron dinner and it did change the perception of the washington political journalist. in 1988 she becomes the first first lady to address the u.n. general assembly. i want to talk to you about the illegal use of drugs and the direct impact it s having on families. bret: she had some big moments but last worked john, on this what would have been her 100th birthday about nancy reagan s legacy. well, bret, she and the president hosted over 80 state dinners. she understood that diplomacy could best be served one-on-one with relationships and the president getting to look other foreign leaders in the eye. i think where that probably changed the world for the best the most was in her relationship with michal gorbachev and
