The Ark-Tex Council of Governments approved filing for a grant for the rural water and wastewater projects at Thursdayâs meeting.
âDrinking water systems are vital to both health and economic development,â ATCOG Grant Specialist Toni Lindsey said. âWith dependable water facilities, rural communities can attract families and businesses that will invest in the community and improve the quality of life for all residents.â
The grant would be $500,000 for different rural water and wastewater processing facilities to upgrade their facilities.
The grant is geared not to large projects, but the small capital ones that communities and organizations put off for when they have the money, Lindsey said.

The Arkansas PBS Foundation has a new name, a new board president and new board members as it supports a bigger role than ever for Arkansas PBS, formerly the Arkansas Educational Television Network.
The Conway-based network proved “just how essential and valuable the network is to the citizens of Arkansas” through a pandemic year of educational services, including curriculums for students learning at home and development programs for readjusting teachers.
The foundation has a relatively new executive director, Marge Betley, after it healed a rift with its parent network that widened over the firing of longtime foundation COO Mona Dixon in 2019.
