The new colonisation

The best thing about my line of work is all the new places you get to experience on the road. Painting houses necessitates travelling to wherever the house is. I was never one to refuse work that seemed a little far from home, and although at times it was exhausting, and I scared myself and others with micro-sleeps at the wheel, I am glad for the experience gained. Health and safety remain one of the most serious concerns in any workplace, and there are serious consequences in Australia for breaches of OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) laws. Still, any pursuit of reward in this life will always involve elements of risk. In fact, the element of risk contributes greatly to the feelings of satisfaction inherent in rewards.

Fresh Bread for life

What a dull, flavourless life the world is accepting for itself. Willing to sacrifice taste and substance for a few more days of undignified tinned preservation. I like my bread fresh from the bakery, it doesn’t last as long as the over engineered loaves from the mega-factories and giant supermarket chains, however, it is a much more pleasurable eating experience. I like my Christianity the same. Give me a preaching that is found in the dew of the morning, bread from heaven, fresh with the proceeding word of God. Once you taste the good stuff, the generic, processed, additive filled, franchised mega church menus fail to stir the soul or senses.

Peace and safety, peas and carrots

Peace and safety are not synonymous terms, nor do they go together like peas and carrots. It appears to me that our modern age possesses a perception that humanity cannot have peace unless security under every possible scenario is guaranteed. The joy of chasing reward, which necessitates risk, is eroding under the weight of a global chain gang, where conformity certifies the safety of all. The internet, with its social media platforms, was once a place where we expanded our social and friendly interactions. Now our phones are our chaperones and monitoring masters, tracing every move, gathering data, keeping us in check. What was a communication device, has become a security device.
