Monroe County law enforcement and emergency personnel freed a driver trapped in a submerged dump truck on Thursday morning.
Authorities transported the driver to Fishermenâs Hospital in Marathon, where he was stabilized and then flown via the Trauma Star air ambulance to Jackson South Hospital in Miami Dade County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The truck blew a tire, then overturned and flipped into the ocean. The accident occurred about 9 a.m. near Mile Marker 61, according to Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay.
The truck was traveling south on U.S. 1 on the Toms Harbor Cut Bridge. As the truck transitioned off the bridge, the front right tire blew out, according to FHP.
