Tomorrow Bob Dylan turns 80. He is the most significant solo songwriter in pop, one of the best lyricists, and, on a bad night, one of the worst singers.
But that’s OK because his songs often bring out the best in other musicians. Here’s my top ten, plus some sparkling covers.

10. Like A Rolling Stone (1965)
Often rated the best single ever, this wasn’t even Dylan’s best single of 1965. Too bitter to be lovable, but its intensity is magnificent. Best cover: the Rolling Stones.
