Furthering the field of single-molecule nanoelectronics, researchers at the Tokyo Institute of Technology demonstrate in an article published in Nature Communications that the structure of long molecules of DNA can be harnessed to create single-molecule junction devices with spontaneous self-restoring abilities in the event of electrical failure. The researchers claim that the device shows an unconventionally high conductivity with a long DNA molecule-based junction in a zipper-like configuration aligned perpendicularly in a nanogap between metal electrodes.
