One person dead after house fire in Maury County

Maury firefighters rescue dog trapped under cliff along Duck River

The Daily Herald Members of the Maury County Fire Department were dispatched to the remote banks of the Duck River early Monday morning and successfully rescued a dog trapped along a steep embankment taller than most buildings in the region. Captain Tommy Stanfill said the dog, a coon hound named Angel, was trapped along the side of the river under a 30 to 40-foot cliff within the greater Yanahli Park area off Sowill Mill Pike and Rieves Bend Road east of Columbia. Volunteer firefighters from three surrounding stations, No. 1, 10 and 12, were dispatched to the scene after 12 p.m. as the department’s team of rope specialists led the rescue.
