We’re not pressing the panic button just yet at least, not until Indiana’s run through the four-game Bloomington pod is done. But two games in, it’s awfully tempting to start smashing said panic button. Repeatedly.
That’s because IU’s first two games of the weekend against first-place Nebraska went . well . pretty freakin’ poorly. The Hoosiers lost the opener to the Huskers, 8-5, before dropping Saturday’s game, 3-1.
Ugh. It’s getting ugly out there. Let’s talk about it.

Indiana is headed east for pod play in New Jersey, where the Hoosiers will play two games each against Rutgers and Nebraska this weekend. Here’s what you ought to know ahead of the four-game trip:
The last time Indiana saw Rutgers’ Harry Rutkowski was Opening Day in Minneapolis when the junior left-hander sat down Hoosier after Hoosier in six innings of one-run ball. It was a suboptimal start to the season for IU hitters, who struck out eight times and managed only four hits against the Scarlet Knights’ southpaw.

Though it, at times, seemed like things would go sideways for the Hoosiers over the weekend, they managed to take a big series win over fourth-place Iowa in Bloomington. The Hawkeyes took the opening game, 6-5, with the help of three errors from the Hoosiers in the field and six walks by Hoosier pitchers. From there, IU smoked Iowa, 12-6, on Saturday and then pulled away late on Sunday to win 12-8.
