Many walleye fishermen point to the Mississippi and Pepin as key reasons that so many anglers from southeastern Minnesota find big success on a bigger scale.

Ted Takasaki of Sioux Falls, S.D. set the national walleye one-day tournament record on April 27, 2002 with a limit of five walleye weighing 53.20 pounds. Takasaki was fishing in a Professional Walleye Trail tournament on Lake Erie at Port Clinton, and feels this could be the year his record is broken.

Lake Erie will be in the spotlight once again on Friday and Saturday (April 16-17) when the national Masters Walleye Circuit comes to Port Clinton. With a record-setting population of walleye to chase, more than 120 pro teams have signed up for the Lake Erie experience.

A possible North Dakota-record walleye was caught recently near Lake Oahe on the Missouri River by Jared Shypkoski of Dickinson, N.D. Shypkoski was trolling a custom-painted Smithwick Perfect 10 crankbait to land a walleye 16 pound, 3 ounce, 33-inch walleye. CLEVELAND, Ohio The record-setting population of Lake Erie walleye has lured more than 90 two-angler teams to sign up for the Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) tournament on Friday and Saturday, April 16-17, in Port Clinton. Don’t be surprised if many of the fishermen investigate making long runs to the Lorain and Cleveland areas in search of trophy fish.
