There are many beautiful and heartfelt tributes paid to Pakie on the condolences section of RIP.ie. Here is a just a small selection.
Packie was one of the most outstanding footballers that I have played against, a true footballing legend. I played for Galway from 1955 to 1963 and we met Leitrim many times and the combination of McGarty and Cathal Flynn was to be feared. The game he played in the 1958 Connacht final still is a permanent memory to me when I think of the supply of ball he gave to the full forward line, especially Cathal Flynn. I know because I was marking Cathal. May Packie rest in peace.
The 2019 Passaic County boys lacrosse championship game between Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley seemed to set the table perfectly for the 2020 Passaic County Tournament. Hills (18-2) defeated Valley (11-8) in hard-fought contest, 6-4.
It was the third straight county crown in a row for Hills (2017, 2018, 2019) and the second year in a row they beat Valley in the championship game. Valley last won the Passaic County crown in 2016, when beat West Milford in the championship game.
Because both Hills and Valley were comprised of numerous underclassmen in 2019, speculation abounded that both teams could perhaps square off in the County Championship game again in 2020. Perhaps, they could also meet up in the 2020 State Tournament and perhaps they could both field the best teams in their histories.

Leitrim legend Packy McGarty (RIP).
Packy McGarty was hailed as one of the greatest footballers of all time as the passing of the legendary Leitrim footballer drew widespread sadness across the GAA community.
The proud Mohill clubman, who died this morning at the age of 87, is widely regarded as the best player ever to wear the Leitrim jersey.
Making his Leitrim senior debut at the tender age of 16, Packy went on to win Railway Cup medals on two different occasions and played in six Connacht SFC finals, including four-in-a-row against Galway, during an inter-county career which spanned from 1949 to 1971.
