The 13 Best Non-Cheesy Country Acts in Dallas

Justin Pickard’s laurels include the Best Americana award from last year s Dallas Observer Music Awards and, maybe more important, the respect and admiration of every musician who has come into contact with his music. Recently, Pickard trekked with his band down to Sun Studios in Memphis where luminaries such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins also recorded to lay down his next album, to be released on Fun Guy Records, the label of Dallas’ own luminary, the Reverend Horton Heat . Tin Man Travis Tin Man Travis is a country-blues artist who plays around regularly. The Fight for the Soul of Portland: Moving forward amid social, economic crisis KATU Staff Replay Video UP NEXT The global coronavirus pandemic jolted the world, and also exposed the underbelly of a city on the verge of a social and economic crisis.  It wasn t long ago that the Rose City s star was rising, but now we re in the middle of the fight for the soul of Portland.  A year ago, in March 2020, the pandemic forced us all to stay home and shelter in place. It wasn’t worthwhile for her to go through insurance because she has a $1,000 deductible and she worried last summer about shelling out the money to repair the damage when nightly protests were consuming downtown Portland carrying with them the risk of further damage.

Hindsight on 2020

Fort Worth Weekly Hindsight on 2020 This year, despite many losing their means to make a living, local musicians proved the pandemic couldn’t lock down their creativity. By JUAN R. GOVEA AND PATRICK HIGGINS - Twenty-Twenty wasn’t fine, but it certainly was musical. Collage by Patrick Higgins One day, when we look back on the unholy year that has been 2000 and 10 times two, the cataloguing of unbearable tragedies, atrocities, and absolute insanities that we’ve all somehow endured this year will read more like CliffsNotes exposition from a clichéd dystopian young adult novel rather than actual historical text. Sadly, in real life, there appears to be no precocious yet aloof and mysterious female lead armed with elite and useful skills to lead us out of pending Armageddon anywhere on the horizon.
