offensive. targeted not one but two local schools and tonight police look for a link. good evening. i m wendy in for craig melvin. police say the vandals first targeted herbert hoover middle school and they appeared to struck again at bethesda middle school and that s where darcy spencer is with more on the possible connection to these two crimes. reporter: police say these crimes are very similar in nature but they have no idea why vandals are targeting middle schools here in montgomery county. mont gonlry county police are investigating acts of vandalism at two middle schools that they believe could be connected. the first at herbert hoover middle school in potomac. it was ethnically offensive and sexually graphic. at 2:40 saturday morning, police responded to an alarm at north bethesda middle school in bethesda. officers found similar damage, sexually explicit paintings and hate language on the school building. several windows were broken. seven cars were damaged wit

the track circuit signal failed to warn the on coming train that there was a stop train ahead. that failure was an on going problem. but warning alarms were repeatedly ignored. board members say they are pleased he will replace a 1,000 series cars like the one involved in that crash, but they say many other outdated series cars are still in states. it will take time, but board members say the culture of safety at metro must change. many of us here at the safety board are metro riders and we want metro to be as safe as it can be. there are 226,000 individuals who ride the metro every day. what is out there to ensure their safety? because what is it going to take? another incident like this to occur? we spoke to the head, he says that the thousand series cars will be replaced between 2013 and 2016. in the meantime, all trains will continue to be operated in manual mode in order to give operators control. we are also told the signal system is replaced. delia, 9news now.
