April 22 was Earth Day a day for us to stop and think about our impact on the planet. Some of our biggest negative impacts are the amount of plastic that ends up in the ocean and overfishing.
An international team of ecologists and economists say the ocean will be devoid of seafood by 2048. When the oceans die, we all die.

You grow up in the fishing community and you’re destined. If you didn’t go to school, you ended up on a boat or in the industry in some form.

We need to support our local fishermen. There are not many commercial fishermen left in California. . Electronics have taken away our tradition, our heritage and our sea time. You don’t need crusty old fishermen. You need somebody that knows how to run the electronics and computer systems and things like that. Industrialized fishing has changed as well. Artisanal fishing, small boat operation, family-owned and operated boats those have been pushed out. We’re trying to hold on to the few that are remaining in California, Oregon and Washington because it’s important. And they bring in the best fish.
