Tommys built in Sussex to commemorate World War One

FULL size statues of British Army soldiers have been installed in Sussex to remember fallen troops from the First World War. Housebuilding company Barratt Homes have partnered with the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) to build their familiar Tommy Club figures at show homes in Sussex. The statues have been placed in gardens at Barratt Homes houses at Chalkers Rise in Peacehaven and Wychwood Park in Haywards Heath. They were revealed for the Victory in Europe Day celebrations on May 8. The design of the statues is based on the silhouettes of Tommy which is typically a soldier in the British Army wearing a helmet and standing with a rifle with bayonet attached.

Housing developers help for veterans on VE Day anniversary

A HOUSING developer working in Herefordshire has marked the anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe with figures of soldiers. Barratt Homes supported the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) after setting up full-size Tommy Club figures at its developments in Herefordshire for the 76th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day on Saturday, May 8. The firm donated £100,000 and bought Tommy Club figures from the RBLI to help raise money, with the figures a symbol of gratitude and commemoration to those who served and sacrificed. The funds raised through sales helped to provide jobs, homes, and mental health support throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
