The Washington City Council approved the mayoral affirmation of the fire department election results Tuesday.
Mayor Jaron Rosien announced that the department has elected City Council Member Brendan DeLong as fire chief, Bill Hartsock as first assistant chief, Jim Williams as second assistant chief, and Phil Morris as secretary/treasurer. DeLong’s departure from the City Council comes as he has moved outside of Ward 3, and his final meeting as a council member will be on January 5th. DeLong is taking on a role that has been served for about a decade by Tom Wide, and he expressed his gratitude at serving on the council for about five years and that he looks forward to continuing serving the city. Rosien mentioned at the end of the meeting that he has received correspondence from a few people interested in representing Ward 3 which covers the southeast portion of the city, but that will be discussed at a future meeting.
