Another Austin-area resident is challenging Texas ban on contracting with businesses that support a boycott of Israel, calling the law unconstitutional in a federal lawsuit against state Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Haseeb Abdullah, a former prosecutor in the county attorney s office in Travis County, is suing Paxton along with several other state officials and agencies after the Employees Retirement System of Texas divested money from the Norwegian company DNB ASA, because of its boycott of Israel. Abdullah contributed to this retirement fund while he worked for the county attorney s office from September 2008 until March 2018.
The Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America is representing Abdullah in his federal suit, which is seeking a declaratory judgment that the Texas ban signed into law in 2017 is unconstitutional because it violates free speech.
