Last year, Loungers UK Limited confirmed it intended to move into the vacant Pizza Express building in Sandside to open the latest in its Lounge franchise of bars.
The company, which also runs the Cosy Club brand, has now been granted a premises licence by Scarborough Council that will allow for the sale of alcohol seven days a week from 10am until 00.30am.
It has also been granted planning permission to make alterations to the listed building to get it ready to become the Marisco Lounge.
The former Pizza Express is to become a new bar and restaurant.

Bosses have suggested people travel to Bath or Marlborough for their pizza fix even if “they’re a bit further away.” A spokesman from Pizza Express said: “Whilst our Devizes pizzeria wasn’t included in our Company Voluntary Arrangements (CVA) which was approved in early September, the landlord has subsequently served us notice, which has sadly resulted in the closure of the restaurant. “We’re doing everything we can to support our teams, and Our customers are very welcome to join us at our other nearby restaurants in Marlborough or Bath, though we appreciate they’re a bit further away.”
