Styer Orchard sale nixed by trust fund dispute

Talks to sell Styer Orchard between Middletown Township and a Bucks County nonprofit group fell through last year when the trust fund set up to maintain the farm would not release money for its acquisition, according to a review of a lawsuit in the dispute. Township officials said earlier this month that discussions to sell the 109-acre property to the Heritage Conservancy of Doylestown ended last summer, leading them to review operations on the Woodbourne Road farm as the long-term leases for their tenants a farmer and retail shopkeeper ended. The review led officials to end their lease with the operator of the farm market on the property and enter into one lease that put the orchard and market there under a single operator.

Styer s change rooted in years on conflict at Middletown orchard

Styer Orchards is a beloved institution in Lower Bucks.  Kids who grew up here will tell you about their first school trip to the orchard and if they re old enough they ll tell you about making their own cider on the old press. Families flock there on October weekends for pumpkins and apples. And their cider doughnuts are a treat any time of the year and their pies are a staple on many holiday tables here. But, a new lease agreement approved last week peels back that warm narrative, revealing and reopening a 20-year feud between the two families that have run the orchard and farm market on the township-owned property.

Labor unions voice concern over COVID vaccine mandates for workers

Labor unions voice concern over COVID vaccine mandates for workers 184 Employers are considering get vaccinated or get fired requirements for workers and that has unions concerned. As part of the nation s vaccine rollout, employers are now considering a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for workers, with at least one already requiring the shot, but labor unions are concerned about the directive. Bucks County, Pennsylvania, is already requiring that the nearly 500 employees of the Neshaminy Manor nursing home must receive the second of two vaccine shots by the end of March or face potential termination, according to the Bucks County Courier Times. The county, which owns the nursing home, issued the mandate after less than half of its employees opted to receive the first shot when it became available to them last month. At least 85 patients have died at Neshaminy Manor, and over 100 staff members have tested positive.

As vaccine rollout continues, there's controversy over mandatory vaccinations at a Bucks County nursing home. Less than half of the staff at Neshaminy Manor chose not to receive the vaccine when it was offered to them and that could cost them their jobs.
