Kiryas Joel will build treatment plant in Woodbury for aqueduct water

An engineer who has worked with Kiryas Joel officials on their ambitious aqueduct quest for more than two decades confirmed for Woodbury Planning Board members last week that Kiryas Joel plans to stop using its Mountainville and Woodbury wells and all others in its system on a regular basis once they secure aqueduct water.  The intention is for all the groundwater resources eventually to serve as a backup water supply to the aqueduct connection, Tom Schoettle, senior vice president at CDM Smith, told the Woodbury board on Jan. 20. So that s ultimately the goal, yes, is to shut off all the groundwater wells.
