Amelia Powers Gardner
Utah County delegates elected the first female county commissioner at the Utah County Convention on Saturday.
Amelia Powers Gardner won 54.7% of the special election vote and, pending official action by the county’s board of commissioners, she will fill the vacancy left by Tanner Ainge, who joined the governor’s team earlier this year.
“I just can’t wait to get to work,” Gardner said on Saturday, thanking Utah County “for your faith and confidence.” She said she’s both “humbled and honored to have been selected.”
Gardner’s campaign aimed at preparing for the future growth of Utah County, which is one of the fastest growing counties in the country.

The decision occurred on Wednesday after the county commission had moved budget staff from under the Utah County Clerk and Auditor s Office to under the commission s control more than a week prior, The Daily Herald reported.
The commission had also designated Utah County Budget Manager Rudy Livingston as the Utah County Budget Officer, a position that would be overseen by the commission.
Several officials criticized the moves and said they eroded the separation of powers, including Utah County Clerk/Auditor Amelia Powers Gardner, State Auditor John Dougall, multiple state lawmakers and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson.
