Farmers keen to make voices heard in TB Partnership

Farmers keen to make voices heard in TB Partnership >More in © FLPA/Shutterstock Farmers recruited to the government’s newly formed Bovine TB Partnership say they are determined to ensure that the farming voice is heard in future policy decisions. Six farmers have been named as members of the group, which the government says will be a “driving force” behind its efforts to eradicate the disease in England by 2038. Dairy farmers Di Wastenage, Phil Latham and Chris Addison, and beef farmers David Barton and Paul Westaway have been included in the panel of 16 members, chaired by Norfolk farmer John Cross.

NFU blasts political bovine TB consultation

NFU blasts ‘political’ bovine TB consultation >More in © Frank Sommariva/imageBROKER/Rex/Shutterstock Defra risks undermining eight years of hard work from farmers in the fight against bovine TB if it replaces badger culling with vaccination without the science to prove it works. That was the damning verdict delivered by NFU leaders during a press briefing on its reaction to Defra’s latest consultation on the next stage of its strategy to eradicate TB in England by 2038. “I think this is a political consultation, rather than a scientific one,” said NFU deputy president Stuart Roberts. “We’re using the best available science to deal with coronavirus and we need to use the best available science to eradicate it. Why wouldn’t we use the best available science when it comes to bovine TB?”
